The Swiss NAC (SAC) was established in 2013 to facilitate the implementation of EUCAST guidelines in Swiss medical microbiology laboratories. The SAC consists of medical microbiologists, clinical laboratory scientists, and other experts in fields of clinical microbiology, with Dr. Stefano Mancini (University of Zurich) serving as the current coordinator.
The SAC is a subcommittee of the Coordination Commission for Clinical Microbiology (CCCM), and its activities are supported by the Swiss Society for Microbiology (SSM).
Roles/mission of the SAC
- SAC offers recommendations, guidance and warnings on contentious issues related to antimicrobial susceptibility testing, including (but not limited to) the interpretation of EUCAST guidelines, implementation of methods, and certification of processes.
- Representation of the SAC within EUCAST.
- SAC issues alerts on rising difficulties regarding antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- SAC may provide guidance upon request
Meetings
- Two SAC meetings are scheduled annually in Bern. The initial gathering is intended for all participants to convene in person, while the second meeting adopts a hybrid format—allowing individuals to attend on-site or virtually based on their preference.
